What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a naturally occurring compound found in hemp and marijuana plants. It is one of more than 100 identified phytocannabinoids, which are responsible for a wide range of biological effects in the body. Unlike its closely related cousin THC, CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects. In other words, it won’t get you “high” the way smoking cannabis might do.
CBD has recently gained a lot of traction due to its potential therapeutic applications. A growing number of studies have indicated that it could be beneficial for treating various health conditions such as chronic pain, anxiety disorders, epilepsy, insomnia, and even cancer-related symptoms. While more research is needed to further explore these benefits and understand how CBD works in the body, preliminary evidence suggests that this compound may indeed have some medicinal benefits.
The primary way CBD acts on the body is by interacting with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system consists of two main components: cannabinoid receptors and endocannabinoids. The ECS plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis—or balance—in our bodies. It helps regulate functions like sleep cycle regulation, inflammation response, appetite control and mood modulation. When we consume cannabinoids like CBD they interact with our cannabinoid receptors which in turn triggers certain physiological responses within the body.
CBD products come in many forms such as oils/tinctures, edibles (like gummies), capsules/pills, creams/lotions and vape pens. Depending on your needs and preferences you can choose from one of these options or combine them for optimal results. The most common methods are inhalation (for immediate relief) or sublingual administration (for sustained relief).
In terms of dosage there is no standard recommendation since everyone’s body responds differently to cannabinoids depending on their individual biochemistry so it’s best to start off with a low dose and slowly increase until you achieve desired results without any adverse reactions. Typically people who use CBD will take anywhere from 5-40mg per day depending on their condition or needs but it really comes down to experimentation to find what works best for you as an individual user.
Finally it’s important to note that while there are many potential therapeutic benefits associated with using CBD it’s still relatively new on the market so self-experimentation should always be done under close physician supervision if possible just to ensure safety when introducing something new into your routine or diet – especially if you’re taking any medications at the same time as CBD may enhance their effects or cause unwanted side effects when taken together with certain drugs so please consult your doctor before starting anything new!
